Isaiah 43:2

Lesson Description

LESSON DESCRIPTION

Children will notice that David is all alone except for his sheep. They notice that David, the sheep, and the puppets are happy and not afraid at night. This is true because the stars shine from the night sky. The stars remind David and all of us that God made them to give light while He watches over us, even when it is dark.

2Big Idea
With children seated, use a simple dialog with a Little Leaders puppet, if available, to introduce the big idea. Suggested: “Our Bible verse today is, [God said,] “…I will be with you…” Hold up the coloring page (colored in neatly) Ask the puppet, then the children, “Do you know what our story is about today? It’s about a shepherd boy named David who is watching over his sheep. See how dark it is, but David is not afraid because the stars light up the night sky.”
3Video
Show the “The Star Song” video on your available TV or device.
4Video Review / Discussion / Takeaway
Show the coloring page. Teacher asks, “Can you find David? Where is the sky?" Help children count the stars. "Have you seen the moon and stars in the sky at night? Where is the sky today?" Explain how God’s sun lights the day, and His stars light up the night. God watches over us and guides us. Teach with motions: “God”(point up), “says,” (fingers together, hand from mouth outward), “I” (point upward) “will be with you.” (arms hugging chest). Repeat together.
5Activity
Provide each child with coloring page and crayons to color stars (yellow or white) on dark night sky. Then, color David, sheep, and puppets.
6Snack / Play Time
Serve snack, if applicable, then lead in a prayer of thanks. Allow play time as needed.
7Song
Play “He's Got the Whole World” on your available TV or audio device.
8Song Takeaway / Discussion
Review how God watches over us and also the whole world, the wind and the rain, [the moon and stars], and even the “little bitty babies.” And, God gives us people to watch over us like Mommies and Daddies, Grandparents, etc. Repeat the memory verse together.
9Activity
Children color large stars on back of coloring page, and trace outline of more stars in blank space. Color them if time permits.
