Lesson Description

LESSON DESCRIPTION

Children will see how David thanks God for giving him courage to face the giant who was bigger and stronger. David was not afraid because God gave him courage. He knew God was stronger than the giant. We cannot see God, but we can trust in His care through those who love us --our parents and family. God loves us and gives us courage so we need not be afraid.

2Big Idea
With children seated, introduce the big idea, saying: “Our Bible verse today is, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.”" Then, dialog with a Little Leaders puppet, if available. For example, “Hey JoJo, have you ever seen a giant?" JoJo: “I sure have! I used to think my mommy and daddy were giants when I was little. They were so tall with long necks!” Teacher: “I’ll bet you were afraid.” JoJo: “Yes, but my mommy and daddy showed me that I should trust them and God to give me courage.” Teacher: “That Sounds like our big idea: ‘God gives me courage.’”
3Video
Show the "Little David, Part 2: The Giant" video on your available TV or device.
4Video Review / Discussion / Takeaway
Did you see how David had courage to bravely face the giant? David trusted God to give him courage. “Let’s do our memory verse for today: “When I (point to yourself) am afraid (look worried, hands to cheeks), I put my trust (fists stacked) in You (point upward).” Repeat.
5Activity
Distribute the coloring pages and allow the children to color the front side of the page while pointing out key aspects that relate to the story/video.
6Snack / Play Time
Serve snack, if applicable, then lead in a prayer of thanks. Allow play time as needed.
7Song
Introduce by holding up back of coloring page: “Do you remember our story of David and the giant? David was smaller than the giant but David trusted God and God gave him courage to defeat the giant. Let’s review the story with a song.” Then play “David and the Giant” song on your TV or applicable audio device.
8Song Takeaway / Discussion
Hold up coloring page showing David and giant: “Can you find the giant? Look how small David is beside the giant. But David was not afraid because he prayed, “God give me courage.” And God helped David have courage. God gives us mommy’s and daddy’s to care for us and give us courage when we obey them.”
