1Welcome
Greet the children and prepare them for the lesson.
2Big Idea
With children seated, introduce the big idea (Sheppy Sheep puppet optional), saying: “Hello Sheppy. Have you ever been to the zoo?” Sheppy: ”I sure have. I used to live in a zoo with tigers, giraffes, elephants, and all kinds of animals.” Teacher: “That’s amazing, Sheppy! Did you know that the Bible tells us that Noah built a large boat called an ark. Then, God caused all kinds of animals, two-by-two, to come into Noah’s ark?” Sheppy: “Geepers! How did they do that?” Teacher: “Aah, funny you should ask. Let’s watch a music video for the song, 'How'd They Do That?'"
3Video
Show the "How'd They Do That?" music video on your available TV or device.
4Video Review / Discussion / Takeaway
With children seated, hold up toy animals (one at a time) that were featured in the video. Ask children to name each one. Teacher: “Children, can you imagine these and many other kinds of animals, two-by-two coming into Noah’s ark? That’s what they did, just like we saw in the video. Then Noah and his family entered and God closed the door. They were safe inside when it began to rain.” Hold up a colorable page of Noah’s Ark and then a large photo of the Ark Encounter. Teacher: “Look how big Noah’s Ark was from this picture (Ark Encounter photo)? God told Noah to make it big enough to hold his family and all the animals. God loved Noah and He wanted them to be safe. Listen carefully to our Bible verse (Improvise your own signing): 'Noah and his family and the animals entered the ark of safety.'” Repeat. Teacher (distribute page/crayons): “Let’s color the ark like you think it looked.”
5Activity
Children color the pre-cut image of the ark. Write the childrens' names on each and collect when time is up.
6Snack / Play Time
Serve snack, if applicable, then lead in a prayer of thanks. Teacher: “Noah and his family prayed before they ate. Let’s all pray around our table.” Allow play time as needed.
7Song/Video
Teacher: “Remember how Noah obeyed God and built a big ark? Our Bible verse tells us, 'Noah and his family and the animals entered the ark of safety.' Then the rain came. Let’s watch what happened next.” Then play “NEED THIS TITLE” video/song on your TV or applicable audio device.
8Song/Video Takeaway / Discussion
Teacher, with Sheppy Sheep puppet (optional): “Sheppy, do you think Noah and his family and all the animals were safe inside the ark? Sheppy: “I don’t know.” Teacher: “Sheppy, did you see how safe and happy the animals all were in the ark? God loves us and gives us mommies, daddies, teachers and other grown ups to keep us safe when we obey them. Let’s practice our memory verse one more time (with signing).” Then, switch to craft activity.
9Activity
Distribute the pages the children previously colored. Then demonstrate how pre-cut page 2 operates with page 1 when page 1 slides within the slit. Distribute copies of page 2 and help children assemble to show the scene-changing feature. Color if time permits. See instructions if needed.
10Summary Wrap-Up
Review the Bible verse with signs, then close in prayer.
