2Big Idea
With children seated, introduce the big idea (Lenny Lion puppet optional), saying: “Hello Lenny Lion. Have you ever seen a rainbow in the sky?” Lenny: ”I sure have. After a hard rain, I walked out of my lion’s den. Then, I looked up, and there it was in the sky—a colorful rainbow!” Teacher: “Thank you, Lenny. Did you know that Noah and his family saw the first rainbow ever?” Lenny: “Oh, that’s cool. Then what happened?” Teacher: “That’s a good question, Lenny. Let’s watch a video and find out.”
3Video
Show the "Little Noah : The Rainbow" video on your available TV or device.
4Video Review / Discussion / Takeaway
With children seated, hold up a color photo of a rainbow. Teacher: “How many of you have seen a real rainbow? Noah and his family saw the first rainbow ever. Can you imagine how happy they were to go outside after being inside the ark for so many days? When they saw the rainbow, they thanked God for remembering His promise to keep them safe. Noah built an altar and thanked God. Let’s do our Bible verse for today: 'God (point upward) remembered Noah (hands on temples) and all (spread arms wide) that were in the ark (hands together to form a roof).' Let’s color a picture of how they might have looked.”
5Activity
Distribute the coloring pages and allow the children to color the front side of the page while pointing out key aspects that relate to the story/video.
6Snack / Play Time
Serve snack, if applicable, then lead in a prayer of thanks. Teacher: “Before our snack, let’s all do like Noah and his family and pray to show God we are thankful for it.” Allow play time as needed.
7Song/Video
Teacher: “Do you like to go outside and play on a sunny day? Noah and his family were so glad the rain stopped and they could go outside. They thanked God for keeping his promise to keep them safe in the storm and then let them go outside afterwards. Let’s listen to Lenny Lion who is thankful to God." Play “Thank You, God! A Thankfulness Lesson for Kids with Lenny Lion” on your available TV or device.
8Song/Video Takeaway / Discussion
Teacher, with Lenny Lion puppet (optional): “Thank you Lenny, for showing us how to be thankful. We can learn to be thankful, too. We can thank God for keeping His promises to always be with us. Let’s look at a page full of things to be thankful for.”
9Activity
Distribute coloring page with items children can identify for which to be thankful—e.g. sun, swing set, picnic table of food, mommy and daddy, a pet, sister and brother, etc. Use coloring time to point out these provisions from God.
10Summary Wrap-Up
